Computing Creatively

No comic today, for reasons John has mentioned so instead here’s a little something different.

Alot of you maybe aware John and I attended Coventry University, we have mentioned it now and again. While we were not at that time a part of the Creative Computing department we had alot of support and guideance from within the department, even going so far as to allow dotGif to appear in the Creative Degrees film show in 2009.

Well now to return the favour I urge you all to watch the below video, it tells the tale of the new approach to teaching first year students employeed by the faculty this year. We know alot of you out there reading this are students, or considering doing courses related to multimedia computing or game design, so why not watch the video and start asking your university why they dont do this also.

Ian's Outburst (Honey)

A comic based on true events and words, overheard by Terry:

Poor Ian. He’s 39, works as management in a videogame store, and works with some truly academically nourished individuals. My time in retail has left me as a scarred husk of humanity, and I wish a swift exodus/death to those currently trapped within its foils.

Also – my parents let slip what I’m getting for Christmas. Once I’ve posted this, I’m off to pre-order Gran Turismo 5 and Final Fantasy XIII… ^_^

Working hard, or hardly working?

Apologies everyone out there in dotGif land, a combination of hardware, illness and time issues have prevented this weeks comic from being finished in time.

It will be posted on wednesday and following Johns magnificent début at writing last week (well it wasnt exactly his first, but we don’t talk about THAT one) I will be returning to pen this issue.

Oh and if you want someone to blame for the delay this week, blame whoever wrote the latest SSH worm on the iPhone, neither of us have an iPhone but we’ve been too busy laughing.

Morning all, just a little house keeping post.
First I apologise for the lack of posts recently. Theres a number of reasons for this, such as those subtly hinted at in the last “special edition” comic.
But as this was a special edition midweek comic dont forget to check out the main monday comic Can We Keep Him?, which is one of my favorite comics simply because dragons rock, fact.

Finally work is still continuing behind the scenes on the new site as John mentioned and I subtly hinted at, and will be completed soon work and study allowing.

dotGif 2.0 – Coming Soon

T/K is working on a very cool new design for the website/blog – yes folks, we are amalgamating!

No more dual links to site and blog, and a centralised repository for all things dotGif (we are also working on a suppository, for people who prefer… internal consumption…)

This may also mean a hosting switch, so there could be some site downtime in the near-future. We will let you know when the work is going ahead. Hopefully, comic releases will not be affected.

Simpson's did it: Redux

Just a quick note concerning the simpsons reference in the last comic for those that didnt follow it click through to read more

For those of you wondering this comic is of course a direct reference to one of my favorite scenes from the simpsons, specifically the “reverse vampires” scene from season 2 episode 7 – Grampa Vs Sexual Inadequacy
Following Homer and Grampa Simpson dalliances with an aphrodisiac tonic the adults of Springfield find themselves “busy” leading the kids to speculate what’s going on.
Here’s the script notes from the scene in question.

Bart: So finally, we’re all in agreement about what’s going on with the adults. Milhouse?
Milhouse: [steps up to blackboard] Ahem. OK, here’s what we’ve got: the Rand Corporation, in conjunction with the saucer people –
Bart: Thank you.
Milhouse: — under the supervision of the reverse vampires –
Lisa: [sighs]
Milhouse: — are forcing our parents to go to bed early in a fiendish plot to eliminate the meal of dinner. [sotto voce] We’re through the looking glass, here, people…

Note to self never reference a 15 year old episode of a TV show again.
